Earth Day with Oriental Trading and a FREEBIE!!!

One of my favorite companies is Oriental Trading.  They have so many great things to buy from their site.  I have bought decor items, party supplies, treasure chest goodies, graduation keepsakes, etc.  You name it....I bought it.  I was so happy to review some of their awesome products.

Before I begin my review I just want to mention a disclosure that I received these product samples in exchange for an honest review.

Oriental Trading has become my go to store for awesome teaching products.  I will be reviewing some great products that have are awesome for Earth Day activities.

This is such a cute little flowerpot for your kids to make and design.  Your students will color and make their flowerpot pretty.  Your kids would then be able to plant their flowers and show it off in their cute flowerpots.

This activity center is so cute.  Students get practice sorting the different recycling items.  They will learn more about recycling paper, plastic, aluminum, glass, compost, and cardboard.

Students will turn and learn more about reducing, recycling, and reusing to help save our Earth.

Students will finish their own pledge for the trees.  They will pledge to save the trees and write how and why.

These eraser topers remind us of that little orange friend who speaks for the trees.  Your students will love using these on their pencils.

These self adhesive stickers are awesome for making a save the Earth poster.  Your students can write a persuasive essay about why we should save and protect the Earth.

I love these Earth Day pledge certificates.  They really give the students ownership of promising to help save and protect the Earth.

Product #8: Earth Day Bands

Give your students one of these, and they will have a constant reminder to love the Earth.  Love them!

Building Fluency for Young Readers plus a BONUS FREEBIE!!!

Working with students to become fluent readers can be challenging at times.  I want to share a new activity series that will hopefully give your students much practice with reading simple sentences fluently.

Fluency

Here are 5 highlights from the NEW series!!!!

1. Students read sentences three times each to develop fluency.
This is such an important part of the series.  When students read repetitively, it helps them to sound clearer and smoother.  The reading begins to become more understandable for them.

2. Phonics Focused
Each NO PREP page is labeled with a focus phonics pattern that is featured in all of the fluency sentences.  Students use a highlighter or crayon to highlight the words that contain the focus pattern.

3.  Intervention/RTI resource
You will love that these pages are the perfect addition to your intervention or RTI time.  It is the perfect warm up to a small group reading lesson.  You could also use this pack for Literacy Centers,  Guided Reading,  Small Groups,  Homework practice,  Partner Work,  Individual Work, or
Group Work.

4. Word Work included
After students read each time, they will complete a word work component.  After the first read, they will rainbow write one of the words they read containing the focus pattern.  After the second read, they will pyramid write one of the words they read containing the focus pattern.  After the third read, they will write by the code.  They will write the focus pattern in red and the other part of the word in blue.  For the CVC pack, they will write vowels red and consonants blue.

5.  Picture Visuals
Each page features a picture of a word that contains the focus pattern.  Students are able to visually see the word and the picture to make a connection to what they read.

FREEBIES for Returning to School after Winter Break!!!!

Activities for returning from winter break

I cannot believe it is time to go back to school already.  I feel like we just got out for break.  I am excited to see the teachers and students and get back into the coaching routine.
I hope you enjoy these activities and FREEBIES that can be used this week for fun as we get back into the swing of things.
I hope you have a wonderful time back to school!!!
ENJOY!!!

Letter Writing
Students can pair off in groups of twos.  Each student will write a friendly letter to their partner explaining what they did over winter break.  When finished, students can share their letters with their partners.
I also attached a writing template if you would just like to do a partner writing activity.

4 Corners Game
This is a favorite game in my classroom.  It will get students up and moving out of their seats.  I am putting a twist on it to make it engaging and academic.

How it Works:
Use these 4 numbers below and put one number in each corner of your room.

Then tell the students to choose a corner of the room(number) and stand in that corner. The teacher will say a math fact.
For example "Teacher says 12+0" Any students in the 12 corner are out and must return to their seats.  Remaining students can then pick another corner of the room(number).  Then "Teacher says 7+8" Any students in that corner are out and must have a seat.
The game keeps going until there is only one student remaining.
When students get out have them use the recording sheet below to write equations that match the correct sum that they hear the teacher say as the game is completed.
This is going to be a lot of fun!!!

Set Goals for 2016
Set goals with your students.  You could do whole class goals first.  For example:
Learn all sight words.
Learn math facts.
Read with fluency and expression.
Next, have students set some individual goals.  Students can use the template below to write 4 goals for 2016.

I hope these activities will be beneficial in your classrooms this week!!!
